BURLINGTON, Vt. – The Holy Cross women's hockey team lost to Vermont, 3-0, Friday night in Burlington.

The first period saw both sides create a couple of quality looks, but neither could find the back of the net. With three minutes remaining in the opening frame, the Crusaders drew a penalty on a fast break and earned a penalty shot, but Vermont's Blanka Skodova was up to the task and kept the game scoreless.

In the second, Vermont could have had two or three more goals than it ended up with if not for Jada Brenon. There was one sequence where she made four saves in about five seconds, laying out across the crease through traffic to deny the Catamounts. Thanks to her strong play, the Crusaders went into the second period down just 1-0.

The Catamounts pulled away in the third with two more goals to claim the 3-0 victory.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

1-0 UVM (2nd, 13:08, EV): Alyssa Gorecki received a pass on the left edge of the slot and fired a shot at Brenon, who got a blocker on it, but it was hit hard enough to still make its way into the net.

2-0 UVM (3rd, 11:58, EV): Once again, Brenon made multiple saves, but this time sticks and skates got in the way of each other and Vermont was able to squeeze one in coming from behind the goal.

3-0 UVM (3rd, 12:36, EV): A stumbling Gorecki got her second of the night off a pass from Saana Valkama.

NOTES & NUMBERS:

  • Over their last five games, the Crusaders have gone 19-for-20 (95%) on the penalty kill.
