WORCESTER, Mass. – The Holy Cross football team has placed five players on the 2019 All-Eastern College Athletic Conference teams for the football championship subdivision. Senior offensive lineman
Brett Boddy and senior defensive back
Chris Riley were selected to the first team, while senior running back
Domenic Cozier, junior offensive lineman
Brian Foley and junior defensive lineman
Benton Whitley earned second team honors.
Boddy, who has also been named first team All-Patriot League in each of the last two seasons, started all 13 of Holy Cross' games this year at left guard. He was one of the leaders on an offensive line which paved the way for Holy Cross to average 345.8 yards of total offense, 135.9 rushing yards and 22.8 points per game on the season. They were even more impressive in Patriot League play, putting up 409.0 total yards, 189.0 rushing yards and 28.2 points per game against conference foes. Over the course of his collegiate career, Boddy played in 34 games with 24 starts.
Riley was also named first team All-Patriot League and first team All-New England this year, after starting all 13 of the Crusaders' games at free safety. He led the team with five interceptions and eight pass breakups, to go along with 74 tackles and two tackles for loss. Riley finished the season ranked first in the Patriot League interceptions, while standing second in passes defended and 17th in total tackles. Over the course of his career with the Crusaders, he totaled 132 tackles, eight interceptions and 12 pass breakups in 34 games played.
Cozier was previously named the Patriot League Offensive Player of the Year, in addition to being a first team All-Patriot League and first team All-New England selection. He played in 12 games at tailback this season with 11 starts, and led the team with 1,147 rushing yards and seven touchdowns on 181 carries. Cozier also caught 14 passes for 131 yards, and finished the year with 1,278 all-purpose yards. He led the Patriot League in rushing yards, while standing third in all-purpose yards and ninth in scoring. During his career with the Crusaders, Cozier rushed 400 times for 2,225 yards and 18 touchdowns in 40 games played, while catching 39 passes for 325 yards and a score.
Foley, who is also a two-time first team All-Patriot League selection, started 12 of the Crusaders' games this season at left tackle. He was one of the top players on an offensive line which has allowed Holy Cross to average 345.8 yards of total offense, 135.9 rushing yards and 22.8 points per game on the year. The line was even more effective in the Patriot League, putting up 409.0 total yards, 189.0 rushing yards and 28.2 points per game against conference foes. Over the course of his collegiate career, Foley has played in 34 games with 24 starts.
Whitley, who was previously named first team All-Patriot League, started all 13 of Holy Cross' games at defensive end this year. He posted five quarterback sacks for 62 yards and seven tackles for loss for 66 yards, to go along with 33 total tackles and two pass breakups. Whitley finished the season ranked ninth in the Patriot League in quarterback sacks. During his Holy Cross career, he has now totaled 50 tackles, eight quarterback sacks and 13 tackles for loss in 25 games played.
Holy Cross concluded the 2019 season with an overall record of 7-6. The Crusaders won the Patriot League title with a 5-1 mark in conference games, and advanced to the NCAA football championship subdivision playoffs.
