WORCESTER, Mass. – The Holy Cross men's basketball team hits the road this weekend, heading to Canisius for a 2:00 p.m. contest on Saturday, Dec. 14. The game between the Crusaders and the Golden Griffins will be shown live on ESPN+, and can be heard on WEEI 1440 AM in Worcester.
Holy Cross owns an overall record of 1-9 so far this season. The Crusaders have dropped their last two games since picking up their first victory of the year against Mercer on Dec. 2 (81-67). Freshman forward
Joe Pridgen has led the team by averaging 15.4 points and 7.4 rebounds per game, while hitting 57.0 percent of his field goal attempts. Junior guard
Austin Butler had also been a key contributor with averages of 10.4 points and 7.6 boards per contest. Freshman guard
Drew Lowder has added 13.7 points and 3.6 assists per game, but has not played since Dec. 1 due to injury. The Crusaders are in their first year under head coach
Brett Nelson, and are coming off a 2018-19 season in which they went 16-17 overall and 6-12 in the Patriot League.Â
Canisius stands 4-4 overall and is currently on a two-game losing streak. In their last game, the Golden Griffins were defeated by Florida Atlantic 62-59 on Dec. 4. Senior guard Malik Johnson has led the team by averaging 14.1 points, 5.5 rebounds, 4.5 assists and 2.4 steals per game. Junior guard Majesty Brandon is also off to a strong start this year, putting up 10.9 points, 3.6 boards and 1.5 steals per contest. Canisius is coming off a 2018-19 season in which it went 15-17 overall and tied for second place in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference at 11-7.
Following the game with the Golden Griffins, Holy Cross will have a week off for finals before returning to action at home against Sacred Heart on Sunday, Dec. 22.
