BOSTON – The Holy Cross women's soccer team defeated Boston University, 2-1, Wednesday night at Nickerson Field in Boston. The Crusaders (4-3-7, 2-1-4 PL) used two second-half goals to mount a comeback and take down the Terriers (5-10-2, 2-4-1 PL) for the first time since 1995.
BU looked to have the advantage in the first half as it scored in the fifth minute, outshot Holy Cross 7-5, and earned more corners, 4-1, but the second half was all Crusaders.
In the 51
st minute,
Carly Flahive sent a high ball from left to right in the 18-yard box that just got over the Terrier goalie and a couple of defenders.
Paige Epp ran onto it and fired a shot that split two defenders to tie things up.
Then, in the 79
th minute,
Kelly Crowley took a shot that was blocked by the defense, but she collected her own rebound and hit a hard, skidding ball that snuck between the goalie and the right post into the lower right corner.
The Terriers would apply some pressure in the closing seconds, sending a cross into the box that was inches away from the foot of a BU forward, but
Sophia Lettieri made the diving stop just in time to break it up with only a second remaining on the clock.
