Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Women's soccer ties Lafayette, 1-1

WORCESTER, Mass. – The Holy Cross women's soccer team tied Lafayette, 1-1, Monday evening at Linda Johnson Smith Soccer Stadium. The Crusaders move to 4-3-8 on the year and 2-1-5 in league action, while the Leopards are now 6-5-5 and 2-2-4.

After playing 56 minutes of this same game yesterday, only to have it ruled a no contest and restarted today, the first half today looked eerily similar to what unfolded yesterday. Specifically, Katie Quinn scoring in the 35th minute to give the Crusaders a 1-0 lead off the assist from Jenna Barnes. The same two linked up yesterday in almost an identical play for what would have been Quinn's first collegiate goal. Since it was wiped from the books, she had to score her second, first collegiate goal today and that's exactly what she did.

Barnes brought the ball in from along the left sideline and sent a cross into the box. Quinn was waiting about ten yards out from the goal, got on the end of it, and sent a shot screaming into the back right corner of the net. Holy Cross would go into the half up, 1-0.

The Leopards answered in the 60th minute with a goal of their own off the foot of Sara Oswald. The two teams finished out regulation knotted at 1 and the score stayed the same through both overtime periods.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
  • Lafayette outshot Holy Cross, 15-13, but both teams put five on goal.
  • With the tie, the Crusaders move into a tie for fourth place with 11 points in the Patriot League with Bucknell. A win in their final game of the regular season against the Bison this Friday would be enough to earn Holy Cross its first postseason berth since 2000. Anything less, while it would still be possible, would not clinch a spot for the Crusaders without seeing how all other league games finished first.
UP NEXT:
Holy Cross will host Bucknell this Friday, Nov. 1, for a 5 p.m. matchup with a chance to earn its way back into the postseason.
