PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Holy Cross men's hockey team upset no. 6/7 Providence, 3-2, in overtime. Andrew Dumaresque posted a career-high two points while three other Crusaders earned their first points in purple.

 

The Friars (1-1-0) struck first with a back door play early in the opening frame. Matt Radomsky went on to make 12 saves in the period in his first collegiate start.

 

The Crusaders (1-0-0) battled back in the second period as the beneficiaries of a three-on-two early in the period. Holy Cross edged Providence in shots, 8-7.

 

Providence took the lead midway through the third period on a tip in goal. Holy Cross continued to pressure with 11 shots of their own in the period. With less than a minute to play, the Crusaders capitalized with an extra skater.

 

In overtime, Holy Cross recorded the lone shot as Kevin Darrar tallied the game-winner. Radomsky finished the game with 31 saves.

 

HOW IT HAPPENED

1-0 PC | 1st – 5:17 EV: The Friars had numbers in front of the Crusader goal and Parker Ford moved the puck across the crease to the back door to hit Greg Printz.

1-1 HC | 2nd – 3:28 EV: Right after the Crusaders killed off a penalty, Jake Pappalardo joined the rush from the box to give Holy Cross a three-on-two. Mike Higgins dropped a pass to Andrew Dumaresque, who then slid the puck across the high slot to Jake Pappalardo for a top shelf wrist shot.

2-1 PC | 3rd – 7:21 EV: Jack Dugan tipped in the puck right in front of Radomsky.

2-2 HC | 3rd – EV EA: With six skaters Anthony Vincent worked the puck from the corner to Neil Robinson behind the net. Robinson sent a puck to the slot that found Dumaresque in the high slot.

3-2 HC | OT – 2:57 EV: Nick Hale broke up a Friars rush and sent a perfect stretch pass to Kevin Darrar at the offensive blue line for a breakaway. Darrar deked his way past Providence's Michael Lackey.
