SMITHFIELD, R.I. - The Holy Cross men's track & field team placed eighth out of 13 teams in the outdoor season opener. 

HIGHLIGHTS:

• Sophomore Garrett Fortin placed sixth in the 100m dash with a time of 11.27. Fortin also placed seventh in the 200m dash (22.83).
• In the 5k, sophomore Alex Campagna finished eighth with a time of 15:42.60.
• Junior Brandon Thornhill finished fifth in the 110m hurles (15.11).
• In the 400m hurdles, sophomore Freddie Halloran placed fifth with a time of 56.48.
• Junior Alexander Escada finished seventh in the long jump (6.28m).
• Freshman Russell Abbott finished seventh in the triple jump (11.96m).

The Crusaders will travel to High Point, N.C., on April 6 to compete in the VertKlasse Meeting.
