Women's Track and Field Competes at URI, Husky Invite

The Holy Cross women's track and field team competed at a pair of meets during a busy week: the University of Rhode Island Pentathlon on Friday, December 7, followed by the Howlin' Husky Invitational, hosted by Northeastern University at the Reggie Lewis Center, on Saturday, December 8. 

At the Husky Invite, sophomore Christa Jay Moore won the pole vault for the second consecutive meet, posting an ECAC-qualifying mark of 3.75 meters.

Freshman Eva McCool-Guglielmo had a New England-qualifying mark of 11.22 meters in the triple jump. She also qualified for the finals of the 60 meter hurdles, finishing in eighth with a time of 9.53 seconds. Junior Jillian Purtell (fifth, 10.19 meters) and freshman Brianna Cummings (sixth, 9.24 meters) also placed well in the triple jump.

Senior Sarah Friess placed fifth with a New England-qualifying time of 7.92 seconds in the finals of the 60 meter dash. Senior Alexandra Curtin was sixth, finishing in eight seconds flat. Friess also finished seventh in the 200 meter dash, clocking in at 26.25 seconds.

Sophomore Abbie Mokwuah had a New England mark in the shot put, placing fourth with a throw of 13.43 meters. Freshman Vanessa Attaya was eighth in the event, with a mark of 11.05 meters. Mokwuah was also seventh in the weight throw, at 14.73 meters; freshman Jordyn Shubrick finished eighth, posting a mark of 12.44 meters.

Curtin and sophomore Mimi Liebers placed in a tie for third in the long jump, each with a mark of 5.38 meters. Purtell was eighth in the event at 5.18 meters.

Junior Caroline Frey placed fourth in the 400 meters with a time of 1:00.08. Freshman Sophia Maynard finished fifth in the 1,000 meter run, clocking in at 3:05.78. Sophomore Madalyne Buco was sixth (3:08.12), while senior Katherine Guilbo was eighth (3:09.19).

Sophomore Marina MacKinnon was sixth in the mile, posting a time of 5:15.58. In the 500 meters, senior Lauren Rasmus was seventh, posting a time of 1:18.98. Freshman Kelsey O'Hara was eighth in a time of 1:19.38.

At the URI Pentathlon, junior Morgan Sanders led the way with a sixth-place finish, totaling 3,057 points. Her best finish of the day came in the 60 meter hurdles, when she placed second and had a New England-qualifying time of 9.16 seconds.

Sophomore Sydney McDonald was ninth with a total of 2,745 points. Her best individual finish was in the high jump, in which she finished fourth with a leap of 1.58 meters.

The Crusaders will next be in action following the holiday break at the Beantown Challenge on January 12.
