Women's Hockey Drops Tight One at Merrimack

Box Score

1st 2nd 3rd Final

NORTH ANDOVER, Mass. – The Holy Cross women's ice hockey team lost to Merrimack, 3-0, in a hard fought one at Lawler Rink. The Crusaders played one of their better games of the season, keeping the Warriors, a team they lost to 5-0 a couple weeks ago, within one goal for two periods plus 14 minutes.

The Crusaders started the game out well, getting a few chances on net in the opening minutes. But Merrimack responded with a goal on their first real chance of the game to grab the lead. The first period would end with the Warriors up, 1-0.

No one would score in the second period, but it wasn't for a lack of chances, including a four-minute double minor on the Warriors that led to multiple looks for the Crusaders. Holy Cross outshot Merrimack 8-4 in the second, but couldn't get one to go.

The Warriors would increase their lead in the third period, despite a strong effort by Holy Cross, adding two more late in the frame.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  1. MC (1st, 4:37, EV): Merrimack opened the scoring on a shot that wasn't the hardest struck, but somehow made its way into the back of the net through some traffic.
  2. MC (3rd, 13:20, EV): The Warriors added a second goal after a questionable no-call on the other end led to a Merrimack break with the numbers.
  3. MC (3rd, 17:53, PP): Merrimack capped the game off with a power play goal.

UP NEXT

The Crusaders will get another shot at Merrimack Saturday night at home at 7:05 p.m.
