PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Holy Cross women's ice hockey team opened Hockey East play Friday night in a 5-0 loss to Providence.
Despite freshman goalkeeper Jada Brenon's 49 saves, the Crusaders fell to a strong Providence team. Holy Cross held the Friars to one goal in the first period, but two in each of the following. The Crusaders were able to put some pressure on the Providence defense, coming close a number of times.
HOW IT HAPPENED
1-0 PC (1st, 1:13, EV): Providence opened the game by quickly putting pressure on the Crusader defense. Cassidy MacPherson took a shot through multiple defenders that found the back of the net.
2-0 PC (2nd, 10:01, PP): Some good Friar passing led to their second goal, this time by Sara Hjalmarsson.
3-0 PC (2nd, 16:07, EV): Hjalmarsson added her second of the night after Brenon deflected a puck away from goal that she got on the end of rebound of and buried it.
4-0 PC (3rd, 17:25, EV): After a relatively solid period of pay, Hjalmarsson made it a hat trick.
5-0 PC (3rd, 19:19, EV): The Friars would add one more in the final seconds.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
