Women’s Track And Field Takes Seventh At New England Indoor Championship

THE BASICS:

Results: 7th out of 34 Teams (38 pts.)

The Lead: Junior Zoe Matherne took first place in the 1,000-meter run with her personal-best time of 2:50.95, qualifying for the ECAC Indoor Championship, as the Holy Cross women's track and field team concluded action at the New England Indoor Championship on Saturday.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • Matherne's time was a season-best mark for the Crusaders. Also earning All-New England honors in this event was senior co-captain Rachel Sowinski (3:02.10) and junior Claire Turner (3:08.89), who captured the seventh and eighth-place spots in the final race, respectively.
  • Senior co-captain Jennifer Kimball hit a season-best mark for the Crusaders in the high jump, clearing a height of 1.61 meters and landing in ninth place.
  • Junior Alanna Hitscherich notched a career and season-best time of 8.85 in the 60-meter hurdles for an eighth-place finish. Her time was good for qualifying for the ECAC Indoor Championship and just 0.02 seconds off from the all-time school record. She earned All-New England recognition for her placement.
  • Hitscherich also landed a distance of 11.35 meters in the triple jump, earning All-New England honors in that event with a sixth-place finish.
  • Freshman Allie Smiley ran for fifth place in the 60-meter dash with her time of 7.86 in the finals, earning All-New England honors.
  • With her mark of 25.67, sophomore Isabella DiMare finished eighth in the 200-meter dash and picked up All-New England accolades.
  • Senior Caroline Carr hit a personal record time of 5:01.62 in the one-mile run.
  • The 4x800-meter relay team of freshman Allison McArdle, Turner, sophomore Katherine Guilbo and Matherne captured a fifth-place finish with their time of 9:23.86, as each of them were named All-New England.
  • Northeastern won the meet with 151 points.

 BEYOND THE RESULTS:

  • Earning All-New England honors was Matherne, Turner, Sowinski, Curtin, Hitscherich, Smiley, DiMare, Guilbo and McArdle.

 UP NEXT:

  • Holy Cross returns to action in Boston for the ECAC Indoor Championship from Mar. 4-5.
