The Lead: The Holy Cross women's track and field team competed in the first day of competition at the New England Indoor Championship in Boston on Friday.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Juniors Zoe Matherne (2:56.07) and Claire Turner (2:59.97) finished first and third, respectively in the 1,000-meter run preliminaries, while senior co-captain Rachel Sowinski (3:00.14) came in fourth place. Each Crusader earned a spot to compete in the finals tomorrow.
- In the long jump, sophomore Alexandra Curtin landed a second-place finish with a personal-record distance of 5.71 meters, as junior Alanna Hitscherich took fifth place with a 5.57-meter mark. Coming in ninth place was freshman Allie Smiley who jumped for a distance of 5.32 meters.
- Sophomore Isabella DiMare took the eighth-place spot in the preliminaries of the 200-meter dash with her time of 25.43. She will compete in the 200-meter dash finals tomorrow.
- Junior Meghan Dietter just missed qualifying for the finals in the 500-meter run, hitting a time of 1:17.76 for a ninth-place spot.
- Freshman Allison McArdle reached a personal record in the 800-meter run with her time of 2:18.07, as she placed 13th.
- While competing in the pentathlon, sophomore Lauren Rasmus tied for first place in the high jump with her height of 1.58 meters. Her mark serves as a personal record.
- After the first day of competition, Northeastern was ahead of the meet in first place with 45 points.
