THE LEAD: Tied 1-1 in overtime, Justin Danforth scored the game-winner at the 1:33 mark for Sacred Heart, as the Holy Cross men's hockey team fell to the Pioneers, 2-1 in overtime, at the Webster Bank Arena on Friday night.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Sacred Heart took the lead in the opening period of the game at the 12:55 mark with a backhanded goal scored by Jeff Carroll on a counter attack. The Pioneers held their lead, as Holy Cross outshot Sacred Heart, 13-8 at the end of the first period.
- Fending off the first power play of the game at the 7:21 mark of the second period, junior goalie Paul Berrafato made a big glove save to help the Crusaders kill the penalty.
- With under two minutes remaining in period two, freshman defender Charlie Barrow connected with junior forward Scott Pooley in the lower slot, as Sacred Heart goalie Brett Magnus made a pad save on the backdoor one-timer to prevent a score.
- Despite a 12-6 shot advantage in the second period, Holy Cross trailed Sacred Heart 1-0 to enter the final frame. The Pioneers went 0-1 on the only power play in the second period.
- Then at the 12:51 mark of the third period, sophomore forward Mitch Collett netted the equalizer on a one-timer wrist shot stick side score. Sophomore defender Johnny Coughlin delivered the pass on the goal.
- In overtime, Justin Danforth scored the game-winner for the Pioneers on a rebounded shot off the pipe during a power play at the 1:33 mark, as Holy Cross fell 2-1.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- Holy Cross had 33 shots on goal, while Sacred Heart took 23.
- Berrafato posted 21 saves for the Crusaders to take the loss, while Magnus had 32 for the Pioneers.
- The Crusaders went 0-2 on the power play, while the Pioneers went 1-4 on its power play attempts.
- The Crusaders won 26 faceoffs, while the Pioneers secured 21.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE.
- The Crusaders are now 34-30-3 all-time against Sacred Heart.
- Barrett now has 37 goals and 52 assists for 89 career points.
- Collett has five goals and three assists for eight points this season.
