The Lead:  Nate Pomeroy scored the game-winning goal in overtime for the Bears as the Holy Cross men's soccer team fell to Brown, 3-2.

 HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • The Crusaders took a 1-0 lead in the 26th minute (25:46) when freshman Luka Milidragovic scored his first collegiate goal. Senior Joe Metzger sent a corner kick into the box to junior captain Brad Ross who fired a one-timer that hit the post. Senior Matt Villano then took a shot that was saved by Brown goalie Teo Norhagen, but Milidragovic knocked in the rebound.
  • In the 36th minute (35:18), following a foul called on a Brown defender in the box, Metzger converted the penalty kick with a shot to the bottom right side of the net past the diving Norhagen for his collegiate goal, making the score 2-0 at halftime.
  • Crusader goalie Henry Stutz made his first save of the night in the 49th minute when he jumped up and grabbed the shot from Pomeroy.
  • The Bears got on the scoreboard when midfielder Rodrigo D'Andrea sent a shot to the bottom right side of the net from 10 yards out in the 50th minute (49:18) to make the score 2-1. Tyler Long recorded an assist on the goal.
  • In the 63rd minute the Crusaders almost took a 3-1 lead when sophomore Owen Azrak fired a shot but it hit off the post of the net.
  • With a man up advantage, the Bears scored the equalizer in the 76th minute (75:35) when Matthew Chow sent a corner kick to Connor Gregory who then headed the ball to the right side of the net to make the score 2-2.
  • In the final minutes of regulation, Brown defender Jason Pesek sent a free kick that hit off the post of the goal to keep the score tied at 2-2 as the Crusaders and Bears prepared to enter overtime.
  • In the 93rd minute (92:08), Nico Lozada sent a pass to Pomeroy who blasted a shot from 25 yards out to the top right corner of the net to give the Bears a 3-2 victory.

 KOOLMAN'S KORNER:

  • “When we are up 2-0, we have to learn to put teams away and we didn't do that,” said Holy Cross head coach Marco Koolman. “Therefore, we let them back in the game. We became complacent and I give credit to Brown for taking advantage. We didn't follow the game plan as well as we have been this season.”

 BEYOND THE BOXSCORE:

  • Milidragovic and Metzger each scored their first collegiate goal.
  • Villano's assist tonight was his third of the season. He leads the team with 13 points.
  • The Crusaders' 19 goals are their most to start a season in 10 years when they also had netted 19 in 2006.

 INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

  • Stutz recorded one save and freshman Bobby Hurstak recorded two saves. Norhagen posted two saves.
  • The Bears outshot the Crusaders, 12-11. Brown had six shots on goal and Holy Cross had four.

 UP NEXT:
