The Lead: Junior Kylee Malouf (Simi Valley, Calif.) went 2-for-3 with two RBI at the plate, as the Crusaders defeated Lehigh 4-3 on Sunday in their final game of the 2016 season.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • The Mountain Hawks notched a run in the second inning to give them a 1-0 lead, then extended their lead with two more runs in the third inning.
  • Holy Cross responded with a run in the top of the fourth, as senior Kelsey Christensen (Hastings, Neb.) hit an RBI single down the left field line to bring home sophomore Mandy McCarthy (Pearl River, N.Y.).
  • The Crusaders made an offensive push in the top of the sixth inning, notching three runs to give them a 4-3 lead. Sophomore Taylor Moss (Howard Beach, N.Y.) led off the inning with a solo-shot home run to get the scoring started. Malouf then brought home freshman Alexandra Held (Houston, Texas) and junior Emily Krisanda (Oak Hill, Va.) to give the Crusaders the lead.
  • The Mountain Hawks threatened to take back the lead in the bottom of the sixth inning, loading the bases with three straight base hits. Senior pitcher Gennifer Durham (Abbeville, S.C.) and the Crusaders defense then forced the next three batters out, with a line out and a pop up to freshman Taylor Wahler (Inman, S.C.) and a pop up to Krisanda.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

  • Lehigh outhit the Crusaders 9-6.
  • The Mountain Hawks left 10 runners on base, while Holy Cross left five.
  • Durham earned the win, allowing three runs on nine hits through seven innings pitched.
  • Christine Campbell took the loss, allowing four runs (two earned) on six hits in seven innings.
  • Malouf led the Crusaders' offense, going 2-for-3 with two RBI.
  • Wahler led the Crusaders with five putouts, while Krisanda led the team with three assists.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE:

  • Moss finished the season with 29 runs batted in, which are now the fourth-most in a single season in program history.
  • Durham completes her career with 78 career starts, ranking her third all-time in program history. She also ranks highly in the record books in career complete games (43, fourth), career strikeouts (263, third) and single-season starts (24, tied for third).
