WORCESTER, Mass. – Senior Catherine Gildea from the women's track and field and cross country teams is the recipient of the 2016 John A. Meegan Athletic Achievement Award. The award was presented at the 61st annual Holy Cross Varsity Club dinner, held at the Hogan Campus Center on Saturday, May 7.

The 2015 Patriot League outdoor champion in the 800-meter run, Gildea has also been a member of two Patriot League championship relay teams – the outdoor 4x800-meter relay in 2015 and the indoor distance medley relay in 2014. A team captain during her senior season, she is a member of the school-record holding distance medley relay team (11:48.66). Over the course of her career, Gildea has been named first team All-Patriot League three times, second team All-Patriot League twice, All-New England seven times and All-ECAC twice.

Away from the track, she has interned with the Daybreak Women's Shelter in Worcester, been a tutor at the Heard Street Elementary School and the Worcester County Jail, and volunteered with Holy Cross Unified.
