The Lead: Junior Alexa Eldracher (Woodbridge, Conn.) set a new Holy Cross record in the triple jump at the New England Championship, as the Crusaders sent student-athletes to compete in both the New England and ECAC Championships this weekend.
HOW IT HAPPENED (ECAC):
- In the 800 m run, senior Catherine Gildea (Milford, Conn.) placed 19th overall, recording a time of 2:10.03, just 0.30 seconds off the Holy Cross record.
- Sophomore Zoe Matherne (Camp Hill, Pa.) placed 10th overall in the 1500 m run, earning a time of 4:28.43.
- In the 4x100 m relay, the squad of freshman Sarah Friess (Castleton on Hudson, N.Y.), sophomore Xanthi Pantazelos (Danvers, Mass.), sophomore Stefanie McArdle (South Glastonbury, Conn.) and freshman Alexandra Curtin (Winchester, Mass.) placed 15th with a final time of 47.75.
- The team of Gildea, sophomore Kate Spitler (Marshfield, Mass.), junior Rachel Sowinski (Mountain Top, Pa.) and senior Caroline Carley (Barrington, Ill.) placed sixth in the 4x800 m relay with a time of 9:08.31, qualifying them for the final round of the event.
- Curtin placed 10th in the long jump with a mark of 5.60 m.
HOW IT HAPPENED (NEW ENGLAND):
- Eldracher placed second overall in the triple jump with a final mark of 11.81 m.
- In the 800 m run, sophomore Claire Turner (Norwalk, Conn.) finished 17th overall with a final time of 2:17.00.
- In the 1500 m run, junior Caroline Carr (Ridgefield, Conn.) finished 11th, recording a time of 4:44.26.
- In the hammer throw, senior Elizabeth Provost (Adams, Mass.) placed 23rd overall with a distance of 39.74 m.
BEYOND THE RESULTS:
- Eldracher's mark of 11.81 m in the triple jump is a new Holy Cross record, breaking her previous record of 11.73 m at the Patriot League Indoor Championship earlier this season.
