The Lead: Freshman Taylor Wahler (Inman, S.C.) led the Crusaders with three RBI, as Holy Cross fell to Marist by a score of 7-4 in game one on Tuesday afternoon.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- The Red Foxes jumped out to a 2-0 lead, scoring a pair of runs in the bottom of the first inning.
- The Crusaders tied the game up with two runs in the third inning. After freshman Jaclyn Brewster (Bridgeport, Conn.) reached base on an error and advance to second on a wild pitch, Wahler homered to left center to make it a 2-2 game.
- Marist responded with a run in the bottom of the third to regain the lead, and made it 4-2 with another run in the fourth inning.
- The Crusaders added another run in the fifth inning, as Wahler scored Brewster with a ground-out RBI.
- After the Red Foxes added two more runs in the fifth inning, Holy Cross made it 6-4 with a solo shot home run from sophomore Mandy McCarthy (Pearl River, N.Y.) to left field.
- Marist would add one more run in the bottom of the sixth to make it 7-4 in its favor.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- The Red Foxes outhit Holy Cross 9-6.
- Marist left nine runners on base, while the Crusaders left four.
- Freshman Alexandra Held (Houston, Texas) took the loss after allowing seven runs (three earned) on nine hits through six innings.
- Brooke Peterson earned the win after allowing two runs (one earned) on three hits through four innings pitched.
- Wahler led the Crusaders offense with three RBI, going 1-for-3 in game one.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE:
- This was the first start, and complete game pitched for Held in her career.
- Wahler's home run was her second of the season, while McCarthy's was her third of the season.
GAME TWO

The Lead: Senior pitcher Gennifer Durham (Abbeville, S.C.) pitched five scoreless innings as the Crusaders took a narrow loss to Marist in game two on Wednesday afternoon.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Durham and the Crusaders defense shined through the first five innings, allowing just one hit and only allowing two runners to reach base.
- The Crusaders took a 1-0 lead in the third inning, as senior Kelsey Christensen (Hastings, Neb.) hit a solo shot home run to center field to lead off the inning.
- The Red Foxes gained the 2-1 lead in the sixth inning, as two players notched solo home runs.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- Marist outhit the Crusaders 3-2.
- The Red Foxes left two runners on base, while Holy Cross left one.
- Durham took the loss after allowing two runs on three hits in six innings pitched.
- Jessica Van Alphen grabbed the win, pitching 1.1 innings in relief and allowing no runs on one hit.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE:
- This was Durham's 14th complete game of the season, giving her 40 for her career, which now stands alone as the fourth-most all-time in program history. She also now has 71 career starts, which is the third-most all-time.
- Christensen's home run was the first of her career.
UP NEXT:
- The Crusaders are back in action this weekend, as they host Army West Point for a three-game Patriot League series at Freshman Field, beginning with a doubleheader on Saturday at 12:05 p.m.
