The Lead: Sophomore Taylor Moss (Howard Beach, N.Y.) went 2-for-3 with two runs scored as the Crusaders fell to Lafayette by a score of 9-4 in the first game of Sunday's doubleheader.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- The Crusaders gained a 1-0 lead in the first inning, as Freshman Jaclyn Brewster (Bridgeport, Conn.) scored on a wild pitch.
- The Leopards responded with a pair of runs to take a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the inning, and added another run in the bottom of the third.
- Holy Cross responded with two runs in the fourth inning to tie the game up, as sophomore Mandy McCarthy (Pearl River, N.Y.) hit a two-run homer to right center.
- The Leopards would regain the lead in the bottom of the inning with two more runs.
- In the fifth inning, the Crusaders added a run off a solo-shot home run from Moss to right center, making it 5-4.
- Lafayette would add another run in the bottom of the fifth, and three runs in the sixth inning to make it 9-4 in their favor.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- The Leopards outhit Holy Cross 10-8.
- The Crusaders left nine runners on base, while Lafayette left five.
- Senior Gennifer Durham (Abbeville, S.C.) took the loss after allowing nine runs (eight earned) on 10 hits and dealing six strikeouts.
- Kristyn Marinelli earned the win after allowing four runs on six hits in 4.2 innings pitched.
- Moss went 2-for-3 with an RBI and two runs scored, while senior Sarah Kane (Jacksonville, Fla.) also went 2-for-3 at the plate in the loss.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE:
- McCarthy's home run was the first of her career.
- Moss' home run was her second of the season, and the fourth of her career.
GAME TWO
Score: Lafayette 10, Holy Cross 9

The Lead: Moss and sophomore Gabby Muniz (Rockport, Mass.) both went 3-for-4 as the Crusaders came up short to Lafayette by a score of 10-9 in Easton, Pa.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Holy Cross started out strong, earning three runs in the second inning. McCarthy drove in a pair of runs with a home run to left center, and senior Hailey Mullen (Plainville, Mass.) brought home sophomore Savannah Young (Celebration, Fla.) with an RBI single to third base.
- The Leopards responded with a strong showing in the bottom of the inning, driving in four runs to take the lead.
- Holy Cross tied the game up with a run in the third, as Muniz brought home Moss with an RBI single to left center.
- Lafayette regained its lead in the bottom of the inning, scoring three runs on four hits.
- In the top of the fourth, Holy Cross scored three runs to tie the game up at 7-7. Mullen got the scoring started as she stole home for a run, and freshman Taylor Wahler (Inman, S.C.) brought home Brewster with an RBI double down the right field line. McCarthy capped off the scoring in the inning with a sacrifice fly to right field to bring home Wahler.
- In the bottom of the sixth, the Leopards took a 10-7 lead after scoring three runs on two hits.
- In the seventh inning, McCarthy scored junior Emily Krisanda (Oak Hill, Va.) with an RBI single, and Young picked up a sacrifice fly to bring home junior Kylee Malouf (Simi Valley, Calif.) and make it 10-9. The Crusaders proceeded to load the bases with two outs, but were unable to bring home a tying run.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- Both teams registered 13 hits in game two.
- Holy Cross left seven runners on base, while Lafayette left eight.
- Freshman Alexandra Held (Houston, Texas) took the loss after allowing three runs on six hits in relief.
- Stacy Gordon earned the win after allowing two runs (one earned) on one hit in relief.
- Moss went 3-for-4 with two runs scored, while Muniz also went 3-for-4 at the plate with an RBI. McCarthy went 2-for-3 with a run scored and led the Crusaders with 4 RBIs.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE:
- McCarthy's home run was the second of her career.
