• The Lead: The Crusaders turned in a number of strong performances on the final day of the Patriot League Championship Sunday.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

• Junior Rachel Sowinski (Mountain Top, Pa.) placed 11th in the one mile run with a time of 5:08.92, while junior Caroline Carr (Ridgefield, Conn.) came in 15th at 5:24.57.
• In the 400 m dash, sophomore Stefanie McArdle (South Glastonbury, Conn.) finished ninth with a time of 58.67, as sophomore Kelly O'Halloran (Litchfield, Conn.) came in 17th at 1:01.05.
• Sophomore Meghan Dietter (Sherman, Conn.) finished eighth in the 500 m run, earning a time of 1:16.71, as senior Oona Wood (Williamstown, Mass.) came in ninth at 1:16.81.
• Senior Catherine Gildea (Milford, Conn.) placed third in the 800 m run, earning an ECAC qualifying time of 2:13.31.
• In the 1000 m run, sophomore Zoe Matherne (Camp Hill, Pa.) finished fourth overall with an ECAC qualifying time of 2:52.65, as sophomore Kate Spitler (Marshfield, Mass.) came in eighth at 2:56.74.
• Sophomore Hannah Jeter (Eden Prairie, Minn.) finished fifth overall in the 3000 m run with an ECAC qualifying time of 9:54.58, while sophomore Annie Sullivan (Southborough, Mass.) came in 15th at 10:22.12.
• The squad of Sowinski, Matherne, O'Halloran and Carr placed seventh in the distance medley with a time of 12:12.48.
• In the 4x400 m relay, the team of McArdle, Wood, Dietter and Gildea placed sixth in a time of 3:56.71.
• Junior Alexa Eldracher (Woodbridge, Conn.) placed fifth in the triple jump, setting a mark of 11.73 m.
• In the pole vault, junior Samantha Speroni (Palos Verdes Peninsula, Calif.) placed fourth with a height of 3.60 m, while sophomore Jamison Briggs (Keene, N.H.) came in fifth at the same mark.
• Junior Cassie Kobelski (Andover, Mass.) placed 11th in the shot put with a distance of 11.59 m, while senior Elizabeth Provost (Adams, Mass.) came in 14th at 11.25 m.

BEYOND THE RESULTS:

• Eldracher's mark of 11.73 m in the triple jump is a new Holy Cross record, breaking her old record of 11.5 that she set last season.

THE TURNPIKE TROPHY:

• This was the first ever women's track and field meet in the Turnpike Trophy competition.
• Boston University earned the point by placing in front of the Crusaders as the Terriers were first and Holy Cross was sixth.
• This athletic series between the in-state Patriot League rivals awards points for all head-to-head victories in both the regular season and postseason, with the Turnpike Trophy going to the school that accumulates the most points at the end of the academic year.
• Boston University holds a 9-2 lead in the season series. The Turnpike Trophy competition continues on Feb. 27 with the men's and women's basketball. For the schedule of the Turnpike Trophy games go here.
