Women?s Swimming And Diving Concludes Action At Patriot League Championship

  • The Lead: The Crusaders wrapped up competition at the Patriot League Championship on Saturday in Annapolis, Md.

  HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • Freshman Jenny O'Brien (Walpole, Mass.) had the top finish for the Crusaders in the 200 yard backstroke, placing 30th with a time of 2:11.15, while junior Kaitlin Jacob (New Milford, N.J.) placed 34th at 2:17.24.
  • In the 100 yard freestyle, sophomore Katie Conners (Sunfish Lake, Minn.) placed 29th at 54.05, while freshman Emma Gurchiek (Barrington, R.I.) earned a time of 55.10 to finish 34th overall.
  • Sophomore Kelley Kraemer (Cincinnati, Ohio) placed 30th in the 200 yard breaststroke, setting a time of 2:31.66, as sophomore Rachel Marasco (Rockville, Center, N.Y.) was closely behind in 31st with a time of 2:32.72.
  • Sophomore Maura Mullaney (Livingston, N.J.) swam the 200 yard butterfly in a time of 2:11.02 to earn the 24th overall finish.
  • Sophomore Maeve Westover (Boston, Mass.) placed 22nd in the 1650 yard freestyle with a time of 17:58.09.
  • In the three meter dive, freshman Casey Sherman (Littleton, Mass.) placed 10th overall with a score of 230.95.
  • The squad of Gurchiek, Westover, Conners and sophomore Nina Sparre (Holliston, Mass.) placed 10th in the 400 yard freestyle relay with a time of 3:36.74.

THE TURNPIKE TROPHY:

  • This was the first ever women's swimming and diving meet in the Turnpike Trophy competition.
  • Boston University earned the point by placing in front of the Crusaders as the Terriers were third and Holy Cross was tenth.
  • This athletic series between the in-state Patriot League rivals awards points for all head-to-head victories in both the regular season and postseason, with the Turnpike Trophy going to the school that accumulates the most points at the end of the academic year.
  • Boston University holds a 7-2 lead in the season series. The Turnpike Trophy competition continues on Feb. 21 with the men's and women's indoor track and field Patriot League Championship. For the schedule of the Turnpike Trophy games go here.
