Women?s Track and Field Shines On Day Two Of Patriot League Championship

  • The Lead: The Crusaders turned in a number of top performances on the second day of competition at the Patriot League Championship in Boston.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • Sophomore Tori Zamarra (Manalapan, N.J.) placed 11th in the 60 m hurdles semi-finals with a time of 9.12, while Alanna Hitscherich (Sussex, N.J.) placed 14th in the semis in a time of 9.19.
  • In the 60 m dash semi-finals, freshman Alexandra Curtin (Winchester, Mass.) placed ninth in a time of 7.89, just missing the qualifying spot for the finals. Classmate Sarah Friess (Castleton on Hudson, N.Y.) ran a time of 7.97 to place 14th in the semis.
  • Sophomore Hannah Jeter (Eden Prairie, Minn.) placed fifth in the 5000 m run with an ECAC qualifying time of 17:21.80, while Annie Sullivan (Southborough, Mass.) placed ninth at 17:54.13.
  • Curtin placed 10th overall in the 200 m dash prelims with a time of 15.51, while Friess finished 21st at 26.14.
  • The squad of sophomore Kate Spitler (Marshfield, Mass.), classmate Zoe Matherne (Camp Hill, Pa.), junior Rachel Sowinski (Mountain Top, Pa.) and senior Catherine Gildea (Milford, Conn.) finished second in the 4x800 m relay with a time of 8:54.02.
  • Curtin placed third overall in the long jump with a distance of 5.67 m, while Hitscherich came in eighth with a mark of 5.50 m.
  • In the weight throw, senior Elizabeth Provost (Adams, Mass.) placed 14th at 13.62 m.
  • Senior Melissa LaCoste (Amherst, N.H.) placed fifth in the high jump with a mark of 1.60 m, as sophomore Jessica Stietzel (Stamford, Conn.) placed eighth at 1.60 m.

BEYOND THE RESULTS:

  • Curtin's mark of 5.67 m in the long jump is a new Holy Cross record, breaking the record of 5.66 m set in 1983 by Kathy Mahoney '85.

UP NEXT:

  • Competition for the Patriot League Championship will conclude tomorrow, with action beginning at 10:00 a.m.
