Women's Track And Field Takes Fourth At The Jay Carisella Invitational

The Lead: Junior Alanna Hitscherich took first place in the 60-meter hurdles with a New England qualifying time of 9.14 (prelims) and finals time of 9.18, as the Holy Cross women's track and field team finished fourth place out of four Division I teams with 77.5 points at the Jay Carisella Invitational on Saturday. The Crusaders competed in just nine out of 18 events, placing in eight events they participated in.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

Hitcherich also notched seventh place in the long jump with a distance of 5.35 meters.
Sophomore Sarah Friess made it to the finals in all three events that she was entered in, taking seventh in the 400-meter run (1:02.12), seventh in the 200-meter dash (26.78) and eighth in the 60-meter (8.19).
Freshman Allie Smiley posted a pair of New England qualifying performances. In the long jump, she cleared a distance of 5.53 meters for fourth place, and in the 60-meter dash, she ran a time of 7.85 (prelims) with a fourth place final time of 7.90.
Sophomore Alexandra Curtin additionally recorded a New England qualifying mark in the long jump and in the 60-meter dash. She jumped for 5.48 meters, landing in fifth place, while finishing in fifth in the 60-meter dash with a finals time of 7.92. Curtin also took third place in the in the 200-meter run with a time of 26.44.
Freshman Morgan Sanders finished third place in the 60-meter hurdles finals with a time of 9.26.
Senior Alliyah Veilleux hit a personal record in the weight throw and scored seventh place with a throw of 13.97 meters.
Senior Cassandra Kobelski finished sixth with a season-best toss in the shot put of 11.55 meters.
Vermont won the meet with 188 points and five first-place finishes.
