Crusaders Fall To Fordham At Yankee Stadium

THE BASICS:

  • The Lead: Fordham tailback Chase Edmonds rushed 23 times for 119 yards and four touchdowns, as the Rams defeated the Holy Cross football team 54-14 in front of a crowd of 21,375 at Yankee Stadium.

 

MAN OF THE MATCH PRESENTED BY THE UNITED STATES MARINES:

  • After the game, senior wide receiver Brendan Flaherty was selected as the United States Marines Man of the Match.
  • Flaherty caught 10 passes for 115 yards on the afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • The Rams opened the scoring at the 12:18-mark of the first quarter on a 41-yard touchdown run by Edmonds.
  • Fordham increased its lead to 21-0 later in the first quarter with a one-yard touchdown run by Edmonds and a 27-yard scoring strike from Corey Caddle to Jorge Solano.
  • Edmonds scored his third touchdown of the day midway through the second quarter on a four-yard run to make the score 27-0.
  • On the following drive, Crusader quarterback sophomore Geoff Wade completed a 55-yard pass to junior wide receiver Darrius Lacy. On the next play, junior tailback Diquan Walker ran eight yards for a touchdown to put the Crusaders on the board.
  • Fordham added two more touchdowns before halftime, on a 17-yard pass from Kevin Anderson to Isaiah Searight and a two-yard pass from Anderson to Robbie Cantelli, making the score 40-7 at the break.
  • In the third quarter, Wade threw a 36-yard touchdown pass to sophomore wide receiver Richie DeNicola to trim the margin to 40-14.
  • The Rams then concluded the scoring with a seven-yard scoring strike from Anderson to Austin Longi and an 18-yard touchdown run by Edmonds.

 

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

  • Junior linebacker Nick McBeath finished the day with a game-high 14 tackles.
  • Wade it on 21 of 36 passes for 307 yards and a score. 
  • Lacy totaled four receptions for 104 yards.

 

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE: 

  • Flaherty became only the seventh player in school history to pass the 2,000-yard mark in career receiving yards, and finished his four years with 2,035 yards.
  • Lacy posted the first 100-yard receiving day of his collegiate career.
