The Lead: Junior Hannah Jeter ran for the 14th-place overall finish with a time of 18:16.90 at the New England Championship in Boston, Mass. to lead the Holy Cross women's cross country team, as the Crusaders placed seventh with 106 points on Saturday morning.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Junior Zoe Matherne was the next Crusader to cross the finish line, taking the 25th-spot with a time of 18:29.87. Right behind Matherne was junior Annie Sullivan who finished 29th with a time of 18:33.51.
- Wrapping up the top five for Holy Cross was junior Kate Spitler (55th; 18:52.03) and senior co-captain Mary Welsh (64th; 18:57.13).
- Nicole Borofski of Stonehill won the race with a time of 17:28.66, as New Hampshire won the title with 94 points.
BEYOND THE RESULTS:
- The Crusaders' seventh-place finish marks their best performance in the New England Championship since 2011, when Holy Cross finished seventh on Oct. 8.
- Matherne, Sullivan and Spitler each ran their career-best times in the 5k.
