The Lead: Rex Epps scored the only goal of the game as the Holy Cross men's soccer team fell to Army West Point, 1-0.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

• Epps found the back of the net in the seventh minute (6:34), when he dodged a Crusader defender with the ball and then knocked the ball past a charging freshman Holy Cross goalie Bobby Hurstak to the right side of the net.
• In the 15th minute (16:01), Hurstak made his first save of the game on a shot by Tyler Mitchiner.
• The Crusaders took their first shot on goal in the 43rd minute (42:34) when an attempt by junior Brad Ross was saved by Justin Stoll.
• Each team played strong defense in the second half as the Crusaders allowed two shots on goal that were saved by Hurstak and the Black Knights prevented the Crusaders from taking a shot on target for the 1-0 victory.

KOOLMAN'S KORNER:

• “Army played stronger than us at the start of the game and that was the difference,” said Holy Cross head coach Marco Koolman. “We can't fall behind early and always expect to be able to win in the second half. We need to get back to scoring goals like we did at the start of the season. We look forward to the Navy game and know we have to start off strong to get a victory.”

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

• Hurstak made three saves, while Stoll made one.
• The Black Knights outshot the Crusaders, 15-10. Army had four shots on goal while the Crusaders had one.

UP NEXT:

• The Crusaders return to action on Saturday, Oct. 8, when they travel to Annapolis, Md., to take on Patriot League opponent Navy at 12:00 p.m.
