THE BASICS

  • The Lead: Three Eagles found the back of the net and Lucas Belanger posted a shutout as the Holy Cross men's soccer team fell to American, 3-0, at Reeves Field.

 HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The Eagles took a 1-0 lead in the sixth minute (5:11), when Jake Garcia scored his second goal of the season. Joe Iraola sent a corner kick that was deflected by Dale Ludwig to Garcia who knocked it in the net.
  • American made it a 2-0 game in the 47th minute (46:50), when Max Holdsworth fired a shot to the right side of the net for his second goal of the season.
  • Then in the 67th minute (66:47), Panos Nakhid sent a through ball to Kibu Mbaluku who found the back of the net to give American the 3-0 lead.
  • The Eagles defense kept the Crusaders off the scoreboard for the 3-0 victory.

KOOLMAN'S KORNER:

  • “Giving up an early goal at the start of each half was tough,” said head coach Marco Koolman, “American played really well. We did not play as aggressive as we have this year and you can't do that if you want to defeat the first-place team.” 

INSIDE THE NUMBERS

  • Freshman goalie Bobby Hurstak made one save for the Crusaders, while Belanger posted two saves to earn the win.
  • American outshot the Crusaders, 15-4, while the Eagles also led in shots on goal, 4-2.

UP NEXT

  • The Crusaders return to action on Saturday, Nov. 5, when they host Loyola Maryland in the season-finale on Senior Day at Linda Johnson Smith Soccer Stadium at the Luth Athletic Complex at 1:05 p.m.
