Women's Swimming And Diving Captures Third Straight Dual Meet Victory

The Lead: The Holy Cross women's swimming and diving team captured 10 first place finishes out of 16 events, as the Crusaders swam to their third straight dual meet victory in a 157-141 win over Fairfield on the road in Fairfield, Conn. on Friday night.

BEYOND THE RESULTS

This was the first time the Crusaders defeated Fairfield in a dual meet since taking down the Stags, 160-138 on Oct. 11 in 2008.
With three dual meet wins this season, Holy Cross is off to its best start to a season in over 12 years.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Freshman Leah Zogby led the way for Holy Cross in the 800 freestyle, swimming to a first place finish and a time of 9:39.59. Senior co-captain Kristin Lane was behind her in second place with a time of 9:51.44. Zogby also took the first place spot in the 400 freestyle (4:45.45), as Lane took second place with a time of 4:50.10.
Sophomore Casey Sherman took first place in both the one and three meter dives. First in the one meter, she tallied 242.32 points before capturing 252 points in the three meter dive.
Freshman Kayleigh Hoagland posted first place in the 100 backstroke for a time of 1:07.58 with sophomore Jenny O'Brien finishing just behind her in second place, registering a time of 1:09.95. Freshman Olivia Lloyd finished fourth in the 100 backstroke with a time of 1:13.04.
O'Brien later took first place in the 200 backstroke with a time of 2:29.88, as Lloyd was third with a time of 2:37.28.
Hoagland later placed first in the 100 freestyle with a time of 1:00.65. Junior Nina Sparre took third place in the 100 freestyle with a time of 1:03.04. Sparre was later the first Crusader to finish in the 200 IM with a time of 2:35.86, good for the third place spot.
Junior Katie Conners notched a time of 28.10 in the 50 freestyle to lead Holy Cross in first place. Freshman Sarah Underhill was the next Crusader to finish, taking fourth place (29.42).
Hoagland and juniors Caroline Body, Maura Mullaney, and Conners teamed up in the 200 medley relay for a time of 2:07.62, good for a second place finish.
In the 200 meter freestyle, Sparre was the first Crusader to finish, taking second place (2:15.47), as Conners took third (2:16.02) and freshman Alicia Vesey finished fourth (2:17.73).
Senior co-captain Gina DeFloria was the first Holy Cross swimmer to finish in the 100 breaststroke, notching third place with a time of 1:20.42. Underhill was right behind her in fourth place with a time of 1:22.35. Underhill later was the first Holy Cross swimmer to finish in the 200 breaststroke, taking the third place spot with a time of 2:57.16.
Mullaney swam for a second place finish in the 200 butterfly with a time of 2:30.69 but later swam for first in the 100 butterfly, recording a time of 1:09.46.
Conners, Mullaney, Sparre and Hoagland closed the meet with a first place finish in the 400 freestyle relay with a time of 4:09.14.

The Crusaders return to action on Saturday, Oct. 29 for the Worcester City Championship hosted by Holy Cross at the Hart Center Pool, starting at 9:00 a.m.
