Women's Swimming And Diving Earns 149-139 Win Over Siena

The Lead: The Holy Cross women's swimming and diving team notched seven first place finishes out of 16 events to defeat Siena, 149-139, in a dual meet for the first time in 10 years on the road Wednesday night.

BEYOND THE RESULTS:

  • This is the first time the Crusaders defeated Siena in a dual meet since the 2006-2007 season when Holy Cross took down the Saints, 183-113 on Nov. 1.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The Crusaders dove into the first event with a win, as the squad of freshman Kayleigh Hoagland and juniors Kelley Kraemer, Maura Mullaney and Katie Conners finished first in the 400 medley relay with a time of 4:10.42.
  • Freshman Leah Zogby then took first place in the 1,000 freestyle, notching a personal record and season-best time of 11:07.53. Just behind Zogby in second place was senior co-captain Kristin Lane, who swam for a time of 11:13.98. Zogby and Lane both later repeated first and second place finishes, respectively, in the 500 freestyle. Zogby recorded a time of 5:24.97, as Lane registered a time of 5:25.37.
  • Conners swam for a first place finish in the 50 freestyle, registering a time of 25.85, right before sophomore Casey Sherman finished on top in the one-meter dive for a season-best score of 264.10. Sherman also took first in the three-meter dive with a score of 256.45.
  • In the 200 freestyle, junior Nina Sparre finished first for the Crusaders and second overall with a time of 2:02.72. Conners was the next Holy Cross swimmer to finish in fourth place with a time of 2:03.35.
  • Hoagland followed with a first place finish in the 100 backstroke (1:01.78), while sophomore Jenny O'Brien (1:03.44) posted the next best finish in the 100 backstroke for the Crusaders for a fourth place spot. O'Brien later was second in the 200 backstroke with a Holy Cross season-best time of 2:15.36. Hoagland also took first place in the 100 butterfly, swimming for a time of 1:01.64. Freshman Olivia Lloyd swam for her career-best time of 2:20.50 in the 200 backstroke. 
  • Sophomore Caroline Body was third in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:12.66, with senior co-captain Gina DeFloria right behind her in fourth, recording a time of 1:12.69. Kraemer was under a second behind in fifth place for a time of 1:13.33. Body was later the first Crusader to finish in the 200 breaststroke, taking third place for a Holy Cross with a season-best time of 2:36.07.
  • Mullaney led the way for the Crusaders in the 200 butterfly for a second place spot with a time of 2:17.97, before swimming for third place behind Hoagland in the 100 butterfly with a time of 1:02.86.
  • Hoagland (55.44) and Sparre (56.78) finished second and third, respectively, in the 100 freestyle. Sparre later took second place in the 200 IM with a time of 2:18.93.
  • Holy Cross ended the meet with a second place finish in the 200 freestyle relay, as the team of junior Jennifer Nash, freshman Alicia Vesey, Sparre and Conners recorded a time of 1:45.30.
