Women's Swimming And Diving Take Fifth Place At The New England Catholic Invitational

The Lead: The Holy Cross women's swimming and diving team finished fifth with 281 points at the New England Catholic Invitational from Oct. 14-15.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Sophomore Casey Sherman took both the first place spots for Holy Cross, finishing on top in the one meter dive with a score of 237.15 before winning the three meter dive with a score of 242.80.
Freshman Kayleigh Hoagland was third in the 100 butterfly, setting a new season-best team time of 1:00.57. Hoagland also finished fifth out of 27 swimmers in the 50 freestyle, setting a new season-best mark for Holy Cross and personal record of 25.04.
Junior Maura Mullaney captured the seventh place overall spot in the 200 butterfly, posting a time of 2:15.39 for the team's season-best mark.
Hoagland and junior Katie Conners split eighth place out of 51 swimmers in the 100 freestyle, each recording times of 55.57.
Freshman Leah Zogby was ninth out of 24 in the 1,000 freestyle with a time of 11:12.05. Zogby later swam for 14th place in the 500 freestyle with a time of 5:25.31.
In the 200 freestyle relay, the squad of sophomore Caroline Body, freshmen Sarah Underhill and Alicia Vesey and junior Nina Sparre were the first to finish for the Crusaders, taking 10th overall with a time of 1:45.53.
Hoagland, juniors Kelley Kraemer and Mullaney plus Conners finished first for the Crusaders and sixth overall in the 400 medley relay with a time of 4:09.64 before sophomore Jenny O'Brien, Body, Mullaney and senior co-captain Gina DeFloria swam for ninth place out of 16 and a time of 1:57.82 in the 200 medley relay.
For the 400 IM, freshman Erin Boddie finished 18th with a time of 5:03.90. Senior co-captain Kristin Lane was right behind her in the 20th spot, registering a time of 5:05.76. Conners took the 24th spot in the 200 IM for a time of 2:19.66.
Sparre took 22nd in the 200 freestyle (2:04.75), as Kraemer (1:12.39) and DeFloria (1:12.49) finished 14th and 15th respectively for the top two Holy Cross spots in the 100 breaststroke.
O'Brien was first for Holy Cross, taking 12th overall in the 100 backstroke, recording a time of 1:03.85. O'Brien later swam for another 12th-place finish and a time of 2:16.11 in the 200 backstroke, setting a new season-best team time.
Underhill finished first for the Crusaders and 17th in the race in the 200 breaststroke with a time of 2:38.10 for a Holy Cross season-best mark with Kraemer notching a time of 2:38.23 just behind her in the 18th spot.
Towards the end of the meet, the team of Conners, Vesey, Sparre and Hoagland placed fifth in the 400 freestyle relay, swimming for a team-best time of 3:44.99.
Boston College won the meet with 1,179.5 points, followed by Saint Francis University in second with a score of 859.
