- This is the Crusaders' sixth win against a nationally ranked team in their Division I era. The Crusaders have wins versus No. 3 Minnesota (4-3 OT) in the NCAA Tournament on March 24, 2006, No. 7 Boston University (5-4) on Oct. 22, 2011, No. 15 Yale (5-4) on Dec. 30, 2012, No. 15 Niagara (5-3) on Jan. 18, 2013, and No. 7 Boston College (5-4) on Nov. 29, 2013.
- Holy Cross is now 3-0-0 at the DCU Center. Tonight's game versus Providence is only the third time the Crusaders have played at the DCU Center. Last year, Holy Cross defeated Princeton, 4-3, on Jan. 2, 2016, while the Crusaders defeated Assumption, 9-3, on Nov. 22, 1983.
- Tonight was the Crusaders' second ever win against Providence. Holy Cross is now 2-6-0 against the Friars. The Crusaders' previous win in the series was a 6-4 victory on the road on Oct. 20, 2007.
- Coughlin's game winner is the third of his career as three of his four career goals are game winners.
- Sophomore Spencer Trapp has recorded a point in each of the first three games this season.
- The Crusaders' 2-0-1 start is their best in four years when they were 3-0-0 in 2012-2013.
- The 14 goals scored by the Crusaders are their most through the first three games of the season in 15 years as they also posted 14 in the first three games of the 2001-2002 season.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- After the first two periods went scoreless, the Friars netted the first goal of the game while on the power play at 14:19 of the third period when Erik Foley sent the puck to the lower right side of the net to make the score 1-0.
- Just 2:16 later, Crusader freshman Neil Robinson tied the game at 1-1. Junior Scott Pooley sent a pass to Trapp who then fired a slap shot, which was tipped in by Robinson for his second goal of the season.
- With 40.2 seconds left in the third period, the Crusaders began a two-minute power play that continued into overtime.

- At 1:41 in overtime, Coughlin scored the game-winning goal. After a one-timer from Mitch Collett was saved by Providence goalie Hayden Hawkey, Coughlin secured the rebound and snuck the puck past Hawkey to give the Crusaders the victory. Junior Danny Lopez also posted an assist on the goal.

- Providence outshot Holy Cross, 34-21.
- Junior goalie Paul Berrafato recorded 33 saves, while Hawkey tallied 19.
- The Crusaders went 0-5 on the power play, while the Friars went 1-3.
- The Friars won 35 face-offs, while the Crusaders secured 20.
