The Lead: Junior Erin Hall (Pembroke, Mass.) notched three points (2g, 1a), including the game-winning goal, to lead the Crusaders past Manhattanville in their first game of the Rutland Herald Invitational on Saturday night.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Hall got the Crusaders on the board 12:47 into the first period off an assist from sophomore Kara Violette (Biddeford, Maine).
- The Valiants would tie the game up 24 seconds later as Sarah Sinning found the back of the net on the power play.
- Senior Mackenzie Boardman (Anchorage, Alaska) would regain the lead for Holy Cross with a tally at the 15:50 mark of the first.
- Manhattanville responded with another quick answering goal on the power play at 16:50 of the period to make it 2-2.
- Holy Cross outshot the Valiants 13-10 in the first period.
- Sophomore Lauren Abbenante (Cranston, R.I.) would make it 3-2 Holy Cross at 18:45 of the second period with a power play goal.
- The Crusaders outshot Manhattanville 19-8 in the second.
- Hall notched her second goal of the game at the 18:09 mark of the third period to give Holy Cross a two goal lead.
- The Valiants cut the deficit to one goal with just three seconds remaining in the game, as Jordan Roetzer knocked in a rebound, sealing the final score at 4-3.
- Manhattanville outshot Holy Cross 14-11 in the third period.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- Sophomore goaltender Tessie Salatas (Laval, Quebec) made 29 saves and allowed three goals to earn the win in net for Holy Cross. She improves to 4-0-0 in net this season.
- Olivia Drew made 39 saves in net for the Valiants.
- The Crusaders outshot the Valiants 43-32.
- Holy Cross was 1-for-2 on the power play, while Manhattanville was 2-for-4.
BEYOND THE BOXSCORE:
- Hall now has now notched at least one point in each of her last four games. She now has 10 points (5g, 5a) on the season.
- Abbenante (5g, 5a) and sophomore Emily Lissner (Woburn, Mass.) (1g, 9a) also now have 10 points this season.
- The Crusaders extend their current winning streak to seven games.
