The Lead: Freshman Taylor Moss (Howard Beach, N.Y.) launched her second home run of the season on a three-run bomb to help lift Holy Cross to a 4-1 victory over Lafayette as the Crusaders concluded their 2015 season Sunday afternoon at Freshman Field in Patriot League softball action.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Sophomore Emily Krisanda (Oak Hill, Va.) plated the first run of the game for the Crusaders when junior Emily Jarvis (Hopkinton, Mass.) stole second. The second baseman launched a throw to the catcher, but the catcher missed the tag and Krisanda slid safely across home plate.
  • Holy Cross extended its lead in the bottom of the third frame to take the 4-0 lead. Freshman Savannah Young (Celebration, Fla.) singled up the middle to begin the inning and advanced to second on a single by Krisanda. With runners on first and second and one out, Moss launched her second home run of the season over the fence in left center field and plated both Young and Krisanda.
  • Lafayette tacked on its only run of the day in the top of the fourth on an RBI double to left field by Rebecca Dvorak that plated Jenna Didio. The Leopards remained in scoring position with Kelly Lallis at third, but were unable to capitalize as Lallis was thrown out at the plate. The inning ended as Miranda Skurla lined out to the second baseman.
  • In the top of the seventh, Lafayette looked to cut into the Crusaders' lead with singles by Samantha Sweigart and Kristyn Marinelli, but Durham was able to retire the final batter of the inning and sealed the 4-1 Holy Cross victory.
