HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Sophomore Emily Krisanda (Oak Hill, Va.) plated the game's first run in the top of the first frame as she advanced from third when junior Emily Jarvis (Hopkinton, Mass.) got stuck in a rundown and was out on the play at second.
  • UMass Lowell evened the score at 1-1 in the bottom half of the third as Madison Alcorn reached on an error committed by the Holy Cross defense to begin the inning. Alcorn advanced to third on a single to left field by Martin and later scored on a sacrifice bunt from Tori Alcorn.
  • The Crusaders gained their second lead of the game as Moss rocketed her first collegiate home run off of UMass Lowell starter Marissa Handley and sent it over the fence in left center field in the top of the fourth.
  • In the the bottom of the fourth, the Riverhawks extended their lead to 5-2 as they tacked on five runs.
  • Holy Cross made the pitching change from freshman Katy Watson (Bexley, Ohio) to Cheske as Welch welcomed Cheske to the game, sending her deep for her first home run of the season to even the score at 2-2.
  • With runners on first and second and one out, King sent a single up the middle that scored Emilia Davies for the third UMass Lowell run of the inning. Martin then hit a sacrifice fly that allowed Brianna Martin to plate as the Riverhawks took advantage of two more Crusader errors to tack on two more runs. Freshman pitcher Amanda Gonzalez (West Roxbury, Mass.) entered the game in relief of Cheske and retired Vanessa Cooper on a fly ball to left field to end the inning.
  • Holy Cross threatened in their half of the fifth inning as freshman Savannah Young (Celebration, Fla.) hit an infield single to third base. Senior tri-captain Cassie Girvalo (Putnam Valley, N.Y.) reached first on an error committed by UMass Lowell and allowed Young to advance to second. Young then advanced to third on a passed ball with one out, but she and Girvalo were stranded on first and second as Handley retired the next two batters.
  • The Riverhawks extended their lead once again as they recorded a three-run bottom of the fifth.
  • Welch began the inning with a single to left field as King brought pinch runner Ally Greene and Darcy home on a single to center field. Later in the inning, Madison Alcorn sent a double to right center that allowed King to plate the ninth run for the Riverhawks.
