GAME 1

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Colleen McWilliams launched a double over the center fielder's head and raced around from second to score on a bunt single by Kourtney Paul, who successfully reached first. A single to left field allowed Paul to make her way all the way from second to plate the second Marist run in the top of the second.
  • Holy Cross tallied two hits in the bottom half of the inning on a double by Mandy McCarthy (Pearl River, N.Y.) and an infield single by sophomore Kylee Malouf (Simi Valley, Calif.), but could not capitalize.
  • In the third frame, Marist's bats came alive as it added three more runs to stretch its lead to 5-0 thanks to a three-run bomb by Kelliher.
  • The inning began with back-to-back singles by Rebecca Freeman and Samantha Reilly. With one out and runners on first and second, Kelliher smashed a home run to straight away center field that allowed Freeman and Reilly to score, chasing Cheske from the game. Sophomore pitcher Maggie Goldberg (Midlothian, Va.) came in to relieve Cheske and recorded the final two outs.
  • The Crusaders began the bottom half of the third inning with an infield single by senior tri-captain Abigail Lang (Londonderry, N.H.) and was followed by a fielder's choice to the shortstop by McCarthy. McCarthy later advanced to second on a wild pitch, but was later picked off at third after Malouf recorded an infield single.
  • The Red Foxes' bats came alive once again in the sixth inning as they tacked on four more runs off a solo home run by Paul and a three-run double to left field by Reilly.
  • Holy Cross went down in order in the bottom of the sixth as Marist came away with the 9-0 victory in game one.

GAME 2

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Freshman Taylor Moss (Howard Beach, N.Y.) began the bottom of the first with a walk and advanced to second on a single to left field by junior Emily Jarvis (Hopkinton, Mass.).  Both Jarvis and Moss were able to score on a double to center field from the bat of sophomore Emily Krisanda (Oak Hill, Va.) to give Holy Cross the early 2-0 lead.
  • Durham held Marist to four hits through three innings of play until the Red Foxes put three runs on the board in the top of the fourth.

Maureen Duddy then singled to right field and scored Berrara as Marist gained the 3-2 lead.

Reilly singled to left field and brought in Van Natta from third to increase the lead to 11-2.
  • Holy Cross showed no signs of giving up as they knocked three hits off of White in the bottom half of the seventh.
  • Junior tri-captain Sarah Kane (Jacksonville, Fla.) began the inning with a single into center field as Moss followed with a single of her own into left. Jarvis smashed a double down the left field line that allowed Kane to score with two outs.
