The Lead: Lehigh's Emily Bausher blanked Holy Cross in game one as the Crusaders fell by a final of 6-0. In a 12-inning game two, junior Emily Jarvis (Hopkinton, Mass.) hit an infield single to third to score the game-winning run as the Crusaders took the 4-3 extra inning victory, snapping Lehigh's eight-game winning streak versus Patriot League opponents.

GAME 1

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The game remained scoreless for the first two innings before Lehigh scattered three runs on four hits in the third frame.
  • Errors proved to be costly for the Crusaders as the Mountain Hawks capitalized. Nicole Yozzo reached on an error committed by the third baseman as Alexis Watanabe knocked a single up the middle to center. An intentional walk to Morgan Decker loaded the bases as Nicole Lattanzio plated Yozzo, followed by back-to-back singles by Bausher and Melanie Velasquez to drive in two more runs.
  • Lehigh tacked on three more runs in the top of the fifth inning as Durham was relieved by Cheske. Beginning the inning with a leadoff single was Lattaznio that landed in left field. Lattanzio then stole second and scored on a single to centerfield by Cassie Waggy. With two outs, Emma Captez smashed a triple over the right fielder's head, allowing both Katie Schultz and Bausher to cross home plate.
  • Holy Cross went down in order in the bottom of the seventh as Lehigh took the game victory by the final of 6-0.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
  • Lehigh outhit Holy Cross 10-3 through seven innings of play.
  • Durham got the no decision as she pitched three innings, giving up three runs on five hits, while striking out two and walking one batter. Taking the loss was Cheske (0-3), who tossed two innings and allowed three runs on four hits, while walking two and striking out one. The Crusader bullpen of sophomore Maggie Goldberg (Midlothian, Va.) and Amanda Gonzalez (West Roxbury, Mass.) pitched gave up a combined one hit through 1.3 innings.
  • Lehigh starter Emily Bausher (13-3) earned the victory as she pitched seven innings and allowed three hits and zero runs, while striking out 10.
GAME 2

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The Mountain Hawks crossed the plate three times through the fourth and sixth frames, giving them the quick 3-0 advantage over the Crusaders.
  • Captez began the third inning off with an infield single to third base and advanced to second on a bunt by Carissa Zito. Watanabe sent an RBI single into right field that scored Captez for the first Lehigh run in the top of the fourth inning.
  • In the fifth frame, Lehigh struck once more as it took advantage of errors by the Crusader defense. Lattaznio advanced to second on an error committed by the right fielder as Ashely Cole came in to pinch run. A single up the middle to center field from the bat of Waggy allowed Cole to score, putting the Mountain Hawks up 2-0.
  • The Mountain Hawks tacked on their third run in the top of sixth inning as Durham relieved freshman pitcher Katy Watson (Bexley, Ohio). Yozzo reached on a throwing error by the third baseman that allowed Velasquez to come around from first to give Lehigh the 3-0 advantage.
  • With the bases loaded and two outs, sophomore Emma Keough (Rochester, Mass.) capped off a three-run sixth inning as she smashed a three-run triple loaded over the head of the right fielder that scored freshman Taylor Moss (Howard Beach, N.Y.), junior tri-captain Sarah Kane (Jacksonville, Fla.) and freshman Savannah Young (Celebration, Fla.).
  • In the bottom of the seventh, starter Christine Campbell was relieved by Bausher.
  • Holy Cross threatened in the bottom of the eighth with back-to-back singles by freshman Taylor Moss (Howard Beach, N.Y.) and Jarvis. A walk to Keough loaded the bases with one out. Bausher got out of the jam as she retired the next two batters to secure the Lehigh 3-0 lead.
  • The next four innings became a pitcher's duel between Durham and Bausher as neither pitcher allowed a hit.
  • In the top of the 12th inning, Lehigh snapped Durham's hitless streak on back-to-back singles by Bausher and Velasquez with two outs. Durham was able to escape the inning with no runs as Yozzo grounded to third base.
  • Holy Cross kicked off the bottom half of the inning on a bunt single by junior Hailey Mullen (Plainville, Mass.) and a single to left field from the bat of Kane. Moss advanced both Mullen and Kane on a ground out to second. With two runners on and two outs, Jarvis slapped an infield single to third base to drive in Mullen for the game-winning run.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
  • Lehigh outhit Holy Cross 9-5 through 12 innings.
  • Watson earned the no decision as she tossed 4.1 innings, allowing two runs on six hits, while striking out two and walking two. Durham (2-4) came in for relief and earned the win as she tossed 7.2 innings, allowing one run on three hits, while striking out five and walking five.
  • Lehigh starter Christine Campbell earned the no decision as she tossed 6.2 innings, allowing three runs on two hits, while striking out seven batters and walking five. Bausher took the loss (13-4), tossing 6.1 innings, giving up three hits and one run.
BEYOND THE BOXSCORE
  • This is the Crusaders' second 12-inning game this season.
