The Lead: The Holy Cross women's track and field team opened full team competition at the 2015 Patriot League Indoor Championship on Saturday as the 4 x 800 relay team comprised of freshman Zoe Matherne (Camp Hill, Pa.), sophomore Rachel Sowinski (Mountain Top, Pa.), and juniors Caroline Carley (Barrington, Ill.) and Catherine Gildea (Milford, Conn.) set a Patriot League Indoor Championship meet record. 

HOW IT HAPPENED

• Freshman Hannah Jeter (Eden Prairie, Minn.) and sophomore Mary Welsh (Manhasset, N.Y.) represented Holy Cross in the 5,000 meter run. Jeter placed ninth at 17:40.50 as Welsh crossed the finish line in 13th  18:37.77. 
• The 4 x 800 relay team of Matherne, Sowinski, Carley and Gildea finished 2nd with a time of 8:57.46 and was enough to set a meet record. It was also a season-best time for the team as well. 
•  In the high jump, junior Melissa LaCoste (Amherst, N.H.) and senior Alexandra Parise (Pine Bush, N.Y.) led the way as they tied for sixth with a height of 1.60 meters with sophomore Jennifer Kimball (South Weymouth, Mass.) followed as she cleared a height of 1.55 meters and tied for 10th. 
• Senior Marissa Romano (Hasbrouck Heights, N.J.) jumped to a fifth place finish in the long jump with a distance of 5.37 meters as freshman Alanna Hitscherich (Sussux, N.J.) took seventh at 5.33 meters. 
• Junior Elizabeth Provost (Adams, Mass.) posted a top-five finish in the 20 lb. weight throw as threw to a fifth place finish at 14.21 meters. 
• In the preliminary heat of the 60 meter hurdles, senior Mackenzie Arndt (Merrimack, Mass.) placed fourth (9.07), Hitscherich in 11th (9.19) and freshman Tori Zamarra (Manalapan, N.J.) in 15th (9.29) and all qualified for the semi-finals. Hitscherich qualified for the 60 meter hurdles final tomorrow as she placed eighth at 9.12 seconds. 
• Senior co-captain Brianna Tabin (South Hadley, Mass.) and Arndt had top-10 finishes in the preliminary round of the 60 meter dash as Tabin placed second (7.69) as Arndt followed in seventh (7.92) and both qualified for the semi-finals. Tabin placed second in the semi-finals with an ECAC qualifying time of 7.65 as Arndt also qualified in eighth place at 7.95.
• In the 200 meter dash preliminary heat, Tabin had her third second-place finsh of the day at 25.14 seconds and was enough to qualify her for tomorrow's final.

• The Crusaders will conclude Patriot League Indoor Championship action tomorrow, Sunday Feb. 22, beginning at 10:00 a.m.
