The Lead: Freshman T.J. Moore (Edina, Minn.) scored the game-winning goal in the third period, while senior captain Matt Ginn (Lindsay, Ontario) posted his fourth shutout of the season and the eighth of his career as the Holy Cross men's hockey team defeated Sacred Heart, 1-0, on Friday evening at the Milford Ice Pavilion in Atlantic Hockey action. These two teams will conclude their two-game home-and-home series on Saturday, Feb. 21 at the Hart Center in Worcester, Mass., at 7:05 p.m. on Senior Night. The Crusaders are tied for fifth place in the AHC standings with 27 points with RIT. The top five teams earn a first round bye in the AHC Tournament.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- The first period went scoreless as Holy Cross outshot Sacred Heart, 12-10. The Crusaders went 0-3 on the power play and the Pioneers went 0-1.
- With five seconds remaining in the second period, Moore fired a shot that hit the post as the score remained tied at 0-0.
- Holy Cross outshot SHU, 15-8, while each team went 0-1 on the man-advantage.
- At 1:45 of the third period, Drew George blasted a shot from the face-off circle that was grabbed by Ginn keeping the game tied.
- At 13:53 of the third period, sophomore Nick Finn (Canton, Mass.) sent a pass to Moore who buried the puck past the stick side of Alex Vazzano to give the Crusaders a 1-0 lead. Sophomore Mike Barrett (Orland Park, Ill.) also posted an assist.
- With 2:17 left in the third period, the Pioneers went on a power play and then went with an empty net with 1:15 left for the two-man advantage. But the Pioneers were unable to score the equalizer for the 1-0 final score.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- SHU outshot HC, 36-32.
- The Crusaders went 0-6 on the power play, while the Pioneers went 0-4.
- Ginn recorded 36 saves, while Vazzano posted 31 saves.
BEYOND THE BOXSCORE:
- Ginn now has four shutouts this season and eight for his career. Both are already school records.
- Moore's goal was his ninth of the year which is tied for the team-lead. He now has two game-winning goals this season.
- Barrett leads the team with 14 assists and 21 points.
- The Crusaders are 2-0-1 versus the Pioneers this season.

- The Crusaders return to action on Saturday, Feb. 21 when they host Sacred Heart at 7:05 p.m. on Senior Night. Saturday is also "90s Night."
