The Lead: Sophomore goaltender Tessie Salatas (Laval, Quebec) stopped 34 shots to backstop the Crusaders to a 4-1 win over Bowdoin on Saturday afternoon at the Hart Center.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Junior Elizabeth Scala (Rumford, R.I.) got Holy Cross on the board first, as she knocked in a rebound off a shot from senior Taylor McGee (Pearl River, N.Y.) at 5:34 of the first period.
- Sophomore Kelsey Goostrey (Jackson, Mich.) would make it 2-0 as she found a loose puck behind goaltender Lan Crofton and scored at 8:24 of the first.
- The Crusaders outshot Bowdoin 20-7 in the first period.
- Sophomore Lauren Abbenante (Cranston, R.I.) made it 3-0 as she gained a breakaway opportunity off a long pass from freshman Julie Matthias (Thornton, Colo.) and found the back of the net at 11:14 of the second.
- At 12:28 of the second period, freshman Sam Girard (Dedham, Mass.) tipped a shot from junior Izzy Bagi (Branford, Conn.) and made it 4-0 Crusaders.
- Holy Cross outshot the Polar Bears 20-7 in the second period.
- Bowdoin got on the board at 14:49 of the third, as Marissa Fichter knocked home a rebound opportunity created by Jill Rathke from the blue line.
- The Polar Bears pulled their goaltender in the final two minutes of the game with a power play to give them a 6-on-4 advantage, but could not find the back of the net.
- Bowdoin outshot Holy Cross 21-7 in the third period.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- Salatas stopped 34 of 35 shots faced to earn the win in net for the Crusaders.
- Crofton stopped 43 of 47 shots faced in net for the Polar Bears.
- Holy Cross outshot Bowdoin 47-35.
- Holy Cross was 1-for-3 on the power play, while Bowdoin was 1-for-5.
BEYOND THE BOXSCORE:
- 12 Crusaders earned one point in the win over Bowdoin.
- Salatas earned the win in her first collegiate start with the Crusaders.
