The Lead: The Crusaders gained a 6-on-4 advantage in the closing moments, but were unable to tie the game as they fell to Franklin Pierce, 4-2, on Saturday afternoon in Winchendon, Mass.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Sarah Sheils got Franklin Pierce on the board first, as she found the back of the net at the 3:59 mark of the first period.
- Shots were even at 11 through the first period.
- Sophomore Kara Violette (Biddeford, Maine) tied the game up for Holy Cross as she scored just 26 seconds into the second period.
- Sheils would score for the second time in the game at 3:59 of the second period to make it 2-1 Franklin Pierce.
- Holy Cross outshot Franklin Pierce 21-8 in the second period.
- The Crusaders went on the power play with 1:36 remaining and pulled their goaltender to give them a 6-on-4 advantage, but were unable to find the equalizer.
- The Crusaders outshot the Ravens 13-10 in the third period.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- Shannon O'Neil stopped 44 shots and allowed one goal to earn the win in net for Franklin Pierce.
- Sophomore goaltender Siobhan Burke (Westwood, Mass.) stopped 27 shots and allowed two goals in net for Holy Cross.
- The Crusaders outshot the Ravens 45-29.
- Both teams were 0-for-4 on the power play.
BEYOND THE BOXSCORE:
- With an assist tonight, freshman Sam Girard (Dedham, Mass.) extends her point streak to five games.
