• The Lead: Junior quarterback Peter Pujals hit on 27 of 36 passes for 358 yards and a career-high six touchdowns, to lead the Holy Cross football team to a 42-0 victory over Lafayette at Fitton Field. Following the contest, Pujals received the Edward N. Anderson Award as the Most Valuable Player of the Crusaders' Family Weekend game.
POSTGAME INTERVIEWS:
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
• Junior wide out Brendan Flaherty caught seven passes for 95 yards on the day, while tying the school single-game record with four touchdown receptions.
• Senior wide receiver Kalif Raymond posted career-highs of 11 receptions and 159 receiving yards, in addition to catching two touchdown passes.
• On the defensive side of the ball, junior linebacker Kyle Young led Holy Cross with 12 tackles, one tackle for loss, one fumble recovery and one pass breakup.
• Senior strong safety Matt Bhaya added five tackles and a fumble recovery, while freshman linebacker Andre Chevalier finished with five tackles and a forced fumble.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
• The Crusaders opened the scoring at the 8:28-mark of the first quarter on a 38-yard touchdown pass from Pujals to Raymond.
• A 34-yard scoring strike from Pujals to Flaherty made the score 14-0 midway through the second quarter, before Pujals hooked up with Raymond again for a 27-yard touchdown.
• Then with just 33 seconds left before halftime, Pujals found Flaherty from 28 yards out to make the score 28-0.
• In the third quarter, Pujals connected with Flaherty for two more touchdowns, for 19 yards and five yards.
• Neither team would score the rest of the way, as the Holy Cross defense posted it second shutout in the last four games.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE:
• This marks the first time the Crusader defense has posted two shutouts in a single season since 1990.
• The 42-0 final score also marked the largest ever margin of victory in the history of the Holy Cross-Lafayette series.
• The Crusaders finished with 561 yards of total offense on the day, while allowing the Leopards only 250 total yards.
• Holy Cross also forced four turnovers in the game, and gave the ball away only once.
