The Lead: Tyler Forbes and Jared Stroud each scored a goal for the Raiders as the Holy Cross men's soccer team fell to Colgate, 2-0, on Saturday evening in Patriot League action.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- The Raiders scored on the first shot on goal of the game when Forbes secured a loose ball and fired a shot from the top of the box to the top corner of the net in the 10th minute (9:44).
- In the 28th minute, the Raiders almost increased their lead but a shot by Ethan Cutler hit the post.
- The Crusaders took their first shot on goal of the contest when sophomore Nicholas Cestaro (Massapequa, N.Y.) had his attempt saved by Ricky Brown in the 40th minute.
- Colgate took a 2-0 lead when Stroud blasted a shot to the lower left corner of the net in the 55th minute (54:17).
- The Crusaders were unable to get any more shots on net as the Raiders earned the 2-0 victory.
KOOLMAN ON THE GAME:
- “We did not carry out our game plan very well tonight,” said Holy Cross head coach Marco Koolman. “Colgate played a lot more aggressive than we did. We did not play well and Colgate took advantage of it and played a lot better than us. We need to play a lot better in our next games.”
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- Senior captain Kevin Wright (McKinney, Texas) made two saves for Holy Cross, while Brown had one save for Colgate.
- The Crusaders outshot the Raiders, 12-11, while Colgate took four shots on goal and the Crusaders had one.
- The Crusaders took seven corner kicks and the Raiders tallied four.
