THE BASICS:

• Score: #10 Fordham 47, Holy Cross 41 (OT)

• Records: Holy Cross 2-4, 0-2 PL; Fordham 6-1, 2-0 PL

• Location: Jack Coffey Field, Bronx, N.Y.

• The Lead: Junior quarterback Peter Pujals set school single-game records with 508 passing yards and 526 yards of total offense, but the Holy Cross football team was defeated by No. 10 Fordham 47-41 in overtime at Jack Coffey Field.

 

PUJALS IN THE RECORD BOOKS:

• Pujals completed 35 of 70 attempts on the afternoon for a school-record 508 yards, while tying his career-high with four touchdown passes.

• He rushed five times for 18 yards, to finish with a school-record 526 yards of total offense on 75 plays.

• Pujals also set school records for most pass attempts and most total offensive plays, while becoming the first player in school history with either 500 passing yards or 500 yards of total offense.

• In addition, he placed fourth on the Patriot League single-game lists for both passing yards and total offense.

 

HOW IT HAPPENED:

• The Crusaders opened the game by jumping out to a quick 10-0 lead in the first quarter, on a nine-yard touchdown run by junior wide receiver Brendan Flaherty and a 47-yard field goal from junior placekicker Zane Wasp.

• Fordham responded with a three-yard touchdown pass from Kevin Anderson to Ben Johnson, before a 30-yard scoring strike from Pujals to junior wide receiver Jake Wieczorek made the score 17-7 at the end of the first quarter.

• Chase Edmonds ran for a pair of touchdowns early in the second quarter, from 12 yards and 13 yards, allowing Fordham to claim the lead.

• Anderson then hit Johnson for a  33-yard touchdown, and the Rams led 27-17 at halftime.

• Holy Cross opened the third quarter with a 34-yard touchdown pass from Pujals to senior wide receiver Kalif Raymond, before Jihaad Pretlow returned the ensuing kickoff 87 yards for a score to put Fordham in front 34-24.

• Pujals then threw touchdown passes of 20 yards to Flaherty and 13 yards to Raymond, giving the Crusaders a 38-34 advantage.

• But Fordham regained the lead, 41-38, on its next possession, with Edmonds running seven yards for a touchdown.

• Neither team would score again until late in the fourth quarter, when Holy Cross took over on its own 27-yard line with 49 seconds remaining and no time outs.

• The Crusaders were able to drive 42 yards in seven plays, with Wasp kicking a 48-yard field goal on the final play of regulation to force overtime.

• Holy Cross had the ball first in overtime but was unable to score, before Edmonds scored his fourth touchdown of the day from seven yards out to give Fordham the victory.

 

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

• The Crusaders had three 100-yard receivers in the game, led by Flaherty with 11 catches for 143 yards and a score.

• Raymond added nine receptions for 140 yards and two touchdowns, while Wieczorek caught four passes for 110 yards and a score.

• Edmonds led the Rams by rushing 31 times for 162 yards.
