The Lead: Freshman Caroline Wells (Greensboro, N.C.) registered a double-double as the Crusaders fell to Bryant on Tuesday evening by scores of 25-19, 25-19, 23-25 and 25-23 in Smithfield, R.I.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- Wells earned a double-double with a team-leading 33 assists and 10 digs.
- Junior Mandy Sifferlen (Sudbury, Mass.) led Holy Cross with 16 kills, while freshman Lynsey Petersen (Palos Verdes, Calif.) notched 14.
- Sophomore M.C. Magner (Northfield, Ill.) led the Crusaders with 20 digs.
- Kristin Kingi led Bryant with 21 kills, while Vika Nesterov led with 59 assists and Debora Magalhaes led with 25 digs.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- With the score tied at 12, the Bulldogs went on a 9-2 scoring run to give them control over the first set. Bryant would claim the win, 25-19.
- Bryant jumped out to an early 10-5 lead in the second set. The Bulldogs were able to hold off a comeback from the Crusaders and secured their second point, 25-19.
- The Crusaders jumped out to a 10-4 lead, but were unable to hold off Bryant's attack. The Bulldogs worked their way back to regain the lead at 21-19, but the Crusaders would grab six of the next eight points to clinch the third set 25-23.
- The Crusaders jumped out to another early lead in the fourth set, but were unable to overcome the Bulldogs to force a fifth set. Bryant sealed the match with a 25-23 win.
UP NEXT
- The Crusaders return to action on Friday, Oct. 16, when they host Bucknell in Patriot League play at the Hart Center at 7:05 p.m.
