The Lead: Junior Mandy Sifferlen (Sudbury, Mass.) and freshman Lynsey Petersen (Palos Verdes, Calif.) each posted 12 kills as the Holy Cross volleyball team defeated Lafayette, 3-0, by scores of 25-16, 25-23 and 26-24 on Saturday afternoon in Patriot League action. The Crusaders have now won two straight matches as they also defeated Navy on Friday, 3-2.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- Sophomore M.C. Magner (16, Northfield, Ill.) led the Crusaders with 11 digs, while freshman Caroline Wells (Greenboro, N.C.) tallied 16 assists.
- Elizabeth Walsh led the Leopards with nine kills, while Samantha Volk totaled 24 assists for Lafayette.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE:
- The Crusaders are 2-0 so far this season at home.
- Sifferlen posted double-digit kills for the 15th time this season out of 18 matches.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- The Crusaders controlled the first set winning 25-16. Petersen led the Crusaders with five kills.
- With the Crusaders leading the second set, 24-23, Sifferlen posted a kill to clinch a 25-23 victory. Petersen and Sifferlen each posted five kills.
- With the third set tied at 24-24, the Crusaders won two consecutive points to earn the 26-24 match-clinching third-set win. Junior Natalie Welsch (Eden Prairie, Minn.) was outstanding with six kills and a .600 hitting percentage.
UP NEXT
- The Crusaders return to action on Tuesday, Oct. 13, when they travel to Smithfield, R.I., to take on Bryant at 7:00 p.m.
