The Lead: Scott Jacklin broke a 1-1 tie in the third period, scoring the game-winning goal for the Colonials as the Holy Cross men's hockey team fell to first place Robert Morris, 2-1, in Atlantic Hockey action at the Hart Center on Saturday afternoon.
POSTGAME PRESS CONFERENCE AND MOORE'S GOAL
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Holy Cross opened the scoring at 13:54 in the first period with a power play goal from freshman T.J. Moore (Edina, Minn.). Junior teammate Jake Bolton (Ellington, Conn.) fed the puck to sophomore Mike Barrett (Orland Park, Ill.) who maneuvered in front of the net putting a shot on target which was deflected and recovered by Moore who sent a shot over the stick side of Robert Morris goalie Terry Shafer.
- The Crusaders were effective on the penalty kill, shutting out the Colonials on both of their opportunities.
- Outshooting Robert Morris 20-13 in the period, Holy Cross finished the first period with the 1-0 lead.
- Robert Morris evened the score at 1-1 at 5:20 in the second period off a slap shot from Zac Lynch that went over the stick side of freshman goalie Paul Berrafato (Williamsville, N.Y.).
- The second period ended with the score knotted at one goal apiece.
- Robert Morris took the 2-1 advantage at 4:59 in the third period off a goal by Jacklin as he collected the puck in front of the net from Lynch and beat Berrafato on the stick side.
- Holy Cross went with the empty net at 1:11 but was not able to score the equalizer despite having three shots on goal, one being by Moore that was saved by Shafer in the final seconds. This was the sixth game in a row for the Crusaders that was decided by one goal.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- Holy Cross went 1-2 on the power play, while Robert Morris went 0-3.
- The Crusaders outshot the Colonials, 39-30.
- Robert Morris held the edge in face offs won by a margin of 42-30.
- Shafer earned 38 saves on the day and Berrafato had 28.
BEYOND THE BOXSCORE:
- Holy Cross' Moore collected the third star of the game. Moore's goal was the team's best seventh on the season.
- Bolton posted his 10th assist of the season and now has 16 points, leading the team in overall points.
- The Crusaders were able to hold the Colonials to two goals in the game. Robert Morris entered the game ranked second in the nation and first in the league in scoring averaging 3.80 goals per game.

- The Crusaders are back at the Hart Center next weekend on Friday, Jan. 30 and Saturday, Jan. 31, for Atlantic Hockey action against Niagara (3-18-2, 3-12-2 AHC). Both games begin at 7:05 p.m.
