Ginn Records Sixth Career Shutout In 0-0 Tie At Army

The Lead: Senior captain Matt Ginn (Lindsay, Ontario) made 34 saves and tied the school's Division I record with his sixth career shutout as the Holy Cross men's hockey team tied Army, 0-0, in Atlantic Hockey action on Saturday evening at Tate Rink. This is the first 0-0 tie in the history of the Holy Cross men's hockey program.

HOW IT HAPPENED:                                                            

  • The Crusaders outshot the Black Knights, 10-7 in the first period, while each team went 0-1 on the power play.
  • Army went on the only power play of the second period as Army took two shots on the man-advantage opportunity as Ginn made both saves. The Black Knights outshot the Crusaders, 11-10 for the period.
  • Ginn posted 11 third-period saves to force overtime, while Holy Cross took six shots.
  • Army outshot the Crusaders, 5-1, in overtime as Ginn was strong in net keeping the Black Knights off the scoreboard for the 0-0 tie.  

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

  • Army outshot Holy Cross, 34-27
  • The Crusaders went 0-1 on the power play and the Black Knights went 0-2.
  • Ginn posted 34 saves, while Cole Bruns had 27 saves for Army.

BEYOND THE BOXSCORE:

  • Ginn's shutout was his second of the season and the sixth of his career. His six shutouts are tied with Tony Quesada (2002-2006) in the school's Division I history starting in 1998-1999.
  • Army won the two-game series as the Black Knights defeated the Crusaders, 5-4, in overtime on Friday.
  • This was the first 0-0 tie in the history of the Holy Cross men's varsity hockey program which started in 1966-1967.
  • The Crusaders are in second place in the Atlantic Hockey standings with 10 points (3-1-4), while No. 17 Robert Morris is first with 12 points (5-1-2). 

UP NEXT

  • The Crusaders will return to action on Tuesday, Nov. 25, when they host Atlantic Hockey opponent Bentley at the Hart Center at 7:05 p.m.
