Jeter Leads Women's Cross Country To Fifth Place At Patriot League Championship

THE BASICS

Location: Goodman Cross Country Course (Bethlehem, Pa.) )
The Lead: Freshman Hannah Jeter (Eden Prairie, Pa.) was the top finisher for the Crusaders, crossing the finish line in seventh of 107 runners at 21:18.40 in the 6K race. The Crusaders finished with an overall fifth place finish at the Patriot League Championship on Saturday morning. 

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Junior captain Caroline Carley (Barrington, Ill.) followed Jeter in 23rd place with a time of 21:47.00, as sophomore Rachel Sowinski (Mountain Top, Pa.) finished behind Carley in 27th at 21:54.20. 
  • Sophomore Mary Welsh (Manhasset, N.Y.) crossed the finish line in 38th at 22:11.40 with classmate Caroline Carr (Ridgefield, Conn.) behind her in 44th (22:17.30) and freshman Alexandria Benoit (Chester, N.J.) following in 54th with a time of 22:33.10. 
  • Freshman Annie Sullivan (Southborough, Mass.) took 64th (22:50.00) with sophomore Kirsty Gargiulo (Summit, N.J.) finished one second behind in 66th at 22:51.20. 
  • Freshman Erin Ahearn (Ringwood, N.J.), classmate Zoe Matherne (Camp Hill, Pa.)  and junior Catherine Gildea (Milford, Conn.) rounded out the top Crusader finishes, crossing the finish line in 74th (23:14.40), 81st (23:48.20) and 88th (23:04.40), respectively.

BEYOND THE BOXSCORE

  • Holy Cross finished in fifth of 10 teams with a team score of 130. Boston University won for the second year in a row with a team score of 52 with Bucknell also earning 52 points. 
  • Jeter earned Rookie of the Year honors as the top rookie finisher in the race, as well as being named to first-team All-League. 
  • Boston University's Rosa Moriello won the women's individual race for the second time, crossing the finish line with a time of 20:18.10. 

UP NEXT 

  • The Crusaders return to action on Friday, Nov. 14 as it gets set to travel to Bronx, N.Y. for the NCAA Northeast Regional, hosted by Manhattan and Iona at 10:00 a.m.
