• The Lead: Colgate quarterback Jake Melville accounted for 234 yards of total offense and three touchdowns, to lead the Raiders to a 20-17 victory over the Holy Cross football team at Andy Kerr Stadium.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
• Sophomore quarterback Peter Pujals (Glenview, Ill.) completed 20 of 30 passes for 145 yards on the afternoon, in addition to rushing the ball 12 times for 61 yards.
• Sophomore tailback Gabe Guild (Overland Park, Kan.) added 75 rushing yards on eight carries.
• Junior strong safety Matt Bhaya (Haddonfield, N.J.) finished with 12 tackles and a pass breakup.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
• The Crusaders opened the scoring with a 33-yard field goal from junior placekicker Connor Fitzgerald (Bloomington, Ind.) at the 9:06-mark of the first quarter.
• Holy Cross then increased its lead to 10-0 on the first play of the second quarter with a one-yard touchdown run by freshman tailback Diquan Walker (Clearwater, Fla.).
• Colgate came back with a three-yard scoring strike from Jake Melville to C.J. Stempeck on its next possession, before sophomore tailback Brendan Flaherty (Beverly, Mass.) threw a two-yard touchdown pass to Pujals to make the score 17-7.
• The Raiders responded with a 14-yard touchdown on a pass from Melville to Alex Greenawalt, and the Crusaders led 17-13 at halftime.
• Neither team scored in the third quarter, before Colgate claimed a 20-17 lead with 11:26 remaining on a one-yard scoring run by Melville.
• Holy Cross had only one more possession for the remainder of the game, which was ended by an interception at the Colgate five-yard line.
