HOW IT HAPPENED:
- The Crusaders took a 1-0 lead in the 15th minute when sophomore Joey DeVivo (Ridgefield, Conn.) sent a shot the lower left side of the net from 10 yards out. Freshman Justin Carfora (Plainview, N.Y.) posted an assist.
- The Eagles tied the contest at 1-1 in the 37th minute when Jake Garcia scored off a rebound from a shot by Panos Nakhid.
- American took a 2-1 lead in the 73rd minute Liam Robley netted a penalty kick after a handball was called on the Crusaders from inside the box.
- Senior captain Will Bowers (Raleigh, N.C.) scored the equalizer in the 79th minute. Junior Diego Ceron (Belleville, N.J.) tallied an assist as he sent a free kick to Bowers who then found the back of the net.
- Robbs earned the game-winner in the 109th minute kick off a deflection from 25 yards out to clinch the victory for the Eagles.
KOOLMAN ON THE GAME: "After we scored the first goal of the game, American then played really well and scored the next two goals," said Holy Cross head coach Marco Koolman. "But we showed a lot of character by scoring the equalizer and forcing overtime. When you play versus a nationally ranked team on the road you need to take advantage of your chances and we missed some key opportunities. But this game will make us better as we continue on."
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- Junior captain Kevin Wright (McKinney, Texas) had eight saves for Holy Cross, as Dylan Hobert posted four saves for the Eagles.
- American held the advantage in shots (34-12) and shots on goal (11-7), as the Eagles led in corner kicks (14-2).
BEYOND THE BOXSCORE:
- DeVivo now has a team-best three goals this season. He has nine for his career.
- Bowers' goal was his first of the season and the third of his career.
